Watercolors by Ann Pangburn

The Griffing Gallery of the Kallet Civic Center will be displaying the watercolor of local artist Ann Pangburn, through the month of August. The gallery is free and open to the public Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm. The public is cordially invited to a reception for the artist to be held on August 17th, from 6 - 8 pm.

For the past five years, Pangburn has been devoting herself to developing as a watercolor artist by continuous learning. She studied briefly at Munson-Williams-Proctor Art Institue and also took classes with local instructors, Catherine Bennett and Linda Evans. She has read extensively on composition, color theory, drawing and technique. Her memberships in the Sherrill Art Guild and the Cazenovia Watercolor Society have been a great source of inspiration and education. She recently attended a workshop with internationally acclaimed water-colorist, Lian Quan Zhen, and will be participating in the upcoming Plein Air Event at View in Old Forge. Pangburn has painted several commissions for large abstracts and portraits, along with leading Paint and Praise events for local churches.

"Painting is a way to capture the essence of a scene. It may be detailed or softly suggestive, but what matters to me is that the viewer has some room to make their own meaning out of it. To that end I like to try to leave something fuzzy of lightly undone or surprising in the distance. I particularly like to try to capture light, especially the afternoon light that comes in long and low. Emotion attends the things that interest us, and that is what I try to capture with paint and light and communicate to the viewer. I am still learning, painting every day, and plan to never stop. The journey is great!"
