Kids Halloween Fun Days

Non scary for children and adults.

11 am- 3 pm at the Great Swamp Conservancy

 8375 N. Main St., Canastota.

Family oriented Halloween interactive displays, hands on Halloween crafts and games and more during daylight hours. Food, gator rides weather permitting. Family/individual photos by Swamp Snappers Camera Club. Admission: $3 children 16 and under, $1 accompanying adult.

This is a fundraiser to benefit the Great Swamp Conservancy.

Madison County Historical Society’s Annual Luncheon and Program

 

Sunday, October 24 at Solsville Hotel

 

The luncheon and program are open to MCHS membership

and the public.

 

Jim Ford is the guest speaker.

 

 

The Madison County Historical Society cordially invites all its members and the public to the society’s Annual Luncheon and Program on Sunday, October 24 at 1 pm at Solsville Hotel located at 7243 Valley Road in Madison. The Madison County Historical Society is proud to present guest speaker, Jim Ford who will present, The Loomis Gang -- Their Activities in the Town of Madison during the period of 1840-1865. Some of the articles used in Mr. Ford’s presentation about the Loomis Gang will cover the theft at the Solsville Hotel.

 

Jim Ford grew up a half-mile north of the Solsville Hotel and attended Madison Central School. He received his bachelor’s degree in history education from Oneonta State and his Masters from Colgate University. Since his retirement from teaching, Ford published 10 books on local history and has done extensive research on many topics related to the history of the Town of Madison.

 

The luncheon buffet served at noon includes salad, roast beef, turkey mashed potatoes and gravy, mixed vegetables, warm apple crisp, coffee, and tea. Tickets for the annual luncheon and program are $25. Reservations are required by October 22. The Madison County Historical Society will be selling raffle tickets throughout the event. Prizes range from the many handmade craft items donated by the talented craft artisans at this year’s 57h Annual Madison County Craft Festival. Tickets for the raffle items are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning tickets will be drawn at the annual meeting; the winner(s) need not be present to win. All proceeds benefit restoration at the Madison County Historical Society. Other ongoing raffle tickets will also be sold throughout the event.

 

The luncheon buffet will be served at noon. The restaurant will open its doors for our event at 11:30 am. The program will follow the luncheon at approximately 1:00 pm. Easy Money Big Band will be performing at the Solsville Hotel at 3 pm. The Madison County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that operates both a museum and the Mary King Research Library located at 435 Main Street in Oneida. The society continues to preserve, collect, promote, and exhibit the history of Madison County and its fifteen towns and one city through the development of programs that enhance Madison County’s heritage. The historical society’s headquarters are housed in an 1849 Gothic Revival Villa that is listed on the State and National Registry of Historic Places.
