Buttons and Baubles: Victorian Workshop @ Madison County Historical Society

 

Come join us for Buttons and Baubles: Victorian Fancywork Workshop for adults and children aged 9 years and up from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 15. 

Participants will be creating a framed holiday tree, wreath, or bell in low-relief and fashioned from old buttons, costume jewelry, and other found object ephemera. Materials provided. Participants are encouraged to bring special items out of their own button jars, costume jewelry and/or bead collections to personalize their work.

Artist, Educator, Pamela Vogan Lynch will lead the workshop. Mrs. Lynch is a professional artist and retired Director of Art for the Oneida City School District with 35 years of experience in art education.The workshop will be held at the Madison County Historical Society on December 15 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm. The cost for the workshop is $14. The Madison County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that operates both a museum and the Mary King Research Library located at 435 Main Street in Oneida.  The society continues to preserve, collect, promote, and exhibit the history of Madison County and its fifteen towns and one city through the development of programs that enhance Madison County’s heritage. The historical society’s headquarters are housed in an 1849 Gothic Revival Villa that is listed on the State and National Registry of Historic Places.

Trombonist and vocalist Melissa Gardiner (Vulfpeck) is celebrating the release of her sophomore album, EMPOWERED, with her band MG3 featuring Andrew Carroll on organ/keys and Byron Cage on drumset. EMPOWERED gives a voice to women who work in typically male dominated industries. Gardiner references potent personal experiences through original music. Her narrative addresses topics like first impressions, workplace harassment, the glass ceiling, domestic violence, recovery, perfectionism, mentorship, leadership, and motherhood.

Melissa Gardiner has shared the stage with several legendary musicians including Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, Geri Allen, Wycliffe Gordon, Arturo O'Farrill's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Dave Matthews Band, and Vulfpeck. In addition to an active performance career, Gardiner is a trombone instructor at Le Moyne College and Cornell University. She is the director for the all-female Jazz Cats program at Opus Music. Last year, she was inducted into the Liverpool High School Fine Arts Hall of Fame and this year into the SAMMY Hall of Fame as Educator of the Year. Gardiner received her BFA from The University of Michigan and MM from The Juilliard School. She is a BAC artist and plays a BAC Custom Trombone. www.melissamaymusic.com
