Madison County Historical Society’s Annual Luncheon and Program

 

Madison County Historical Society’s Annual Luncheon and Program will be held on Sunday, October 27 at Lakeview by Chop and Grind. The luncheon and program are open to MCHS membership and the public. Steve Stokes is the guest speaker.

Oneida-The Madison County Historical Society cordially invites all of its members and the public to the society’s Annual Luncheon and Programon Sunday, October 27 at 1 pm at Lakeview by Chop and Grindlocated at 1017 Golf Course Lane in Oneida. The Madison County Historical Society is proud to present guest speaker, Steve Stokes who will present, Mystery and Mayhem, a lighter look at the darker side of Madison County History.

Stokes’sprogramwill look at the quirkier side of past events in Madison County including murder, scandals and the bizarre. Nothing normal or mundane will be covered just the unusual and peculiar.

Steve Stokes taught social studies at Jamesville-Dewitt and Fayetteville-Manlius Central Schools over his 35-year career in education. He was also the drama director at Fayetteville-Manlius Central Schools for 23-years while leading their summer drama program.  During his tenure he was awarded Alumni of the Year for Canastota Central Schools and awarded Central New York Educator of the Week, nominated as a semi-finalist for New York State Teacher of the Year and inducted into the Who’s Who of American Teachers. He served for eighteen years on the Canastota Central School Board as President, Vice President, and Trustee, as well as the New York State Tri-counties school board, serving as Trustee and Vice-President. Since retirement, he has devoted much of his time in his community of Canastota coaching baseball, basketball, and football, serving as Little League President. His community volunteerism also includes serving for over a decade on various committees at the Madison County Historical Society, most recently, as President of the historical society.

The luncheon buffet served at 1:00 pm includes BBQ chicken, hamburgers, macaroni salad, grilled vegetables, coffee and tea. Tickets for the annual luncheon and program are $20. Reservations are required by October 24.  The Madison County Historical Society will be selling raffle tickets throughout the event. Prizes range from the many handmade craft items donated by the talented craft artisans at this year’s 55th Annual Madison County Craft Festival. Tickets for the raffle items are $1 each or 6 for $5. The winning tickets will be drawn at the annual meeting; winner(s) need not to be present to win. All proceeds benefit restoration at the Madison County Historical Society. Other ongoing raffle tickets will also be sold throughout the event.

 

The luncheon buffet will be served at 1:00 pm. The program will follow the luncheon at approximately 2:00 pm. Please contact the Madison County Historical Society at 315-363-4136, or history@mchs1900.org for more information, directions, or to make a reservation.The Madison County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that operates both a museum and the Mary King Research Library located at 435 Main Street in Oneida.  The society continues to preserve, collect, promote, and exhibit the history of Madison County and its fifteen towns and one city through the development of programs that enhance Madison County’s heritage. The historical society’s headquarters are housed in an 1849 Gothic Revival Villa that is listed on the State and National Registry of Historic Places.
