Oneida Community Settlement Patterns Tour @Oneida Community Mansion House

WHAT: Oneida Community Settlement Patterns Tour

WHEN: Saturday, October 21, 2017 – 10:30 am

WHERE: Oneida Community Mansion House, 170 Kenwood Ave. Oneida NY 13421

Join us on Saturday, October 21 at 10:30am for International Archaeology Day as we search for evidence of past lives in the landscape surrounding the Mansion House.

The Oneida Community (1848-1880) built a communal home consisting of dozens of buildings and hundreds of acres of land, which they used to support their specific ways of life, work, and thought. October 21, International Archaeology Day, we will seek out evidence of those past uses and try to locate built evidence to re-imagine how life was lived by the Oneida Community, its regional antecedents and descendants.

Participants should wear comfortable hiking or walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. Binoculars and cameras are encouraged!

The event is free for members, non-members are $7 and students (ages 8 & up): $3.

The Oneida Community Mansion House was the residence of the 19th century utopian Oneida Community (1848 - 1880). OCMH preserves, collects and interprets material culture, intangible heritage, and five historic buildings, situated on 33 acres of landscaped lawns and gardens. OCMH is a National Historic Landmark and chartered by the New York State Department of Education.

The House is open for visitors Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm, and Sunday from Noon until 5:00 pm. Guided tours are provided (with admission) Wednesday through Saturday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, and Sunday at 2:00 pm.
